...Oh wait, I’ve been using Adblock for years.

Yup. As did I. I only disable it for YouTube and Twitch if it’s someone I want to support.

THIS.

I have Adblock Pro and Adblock Plus both installed, plus click to flash, and I made an exception for Jalopnik just because I like them. But I never see ads on Oppo.

I was under the impression that unique visitors is what generates ad revenue, not seeing the ads with your eyeballs. You visit the page, they get paid.

You mean it’s like that small odometer-esque counter at the bottom of a Xanga/Geocities/Angelfire page?

This is the correct response.

That’s how I have understood it. I would appreciate any information on the subject if you had any.

Don’t forget that most of the money goes into Nick Denton’s grubby little mitts. Which he (ALLEGEDLY) presumably (ALLEGEDLY) spends on (ALLEGEDLY) gay escorts (ALLEGEDLY). (That means I can’t be sued, right?)

Until today I’d never heard of Nick Denton and could have cared less. I still like the Jalop crew, but I don’t visit the FP that much anyway so they aren’t getting more than a few pennies a month from me. Not worried about it in the long run. My staying or leaving Oppo isn’t going to affect Gawker media or Nick Denton.

Interesting. Your guess is as good as mine.
Though, I have been reprimanded by some sites for using ABP. The notice is where the ad banners would be. It says something something pls no ABP something ads something stahp.

Don’t they also get paid for page clicks too?

I don’t know about gawker specifically, and it varies extremely widely, but ad rates are normally determined by unique visitors (and their demos if available), unique impressions, and click-through rate. Then actual payments are typically for impressions and click-throughs. So with adblock you can assist a site with getting a higher rate for their ads but you do not assist with the actual payment amounts via not being served the ad nor clicking through.

I’ve seen a whole list of all their various background programs on reddit. A lot of trackers.

Worst. Extension. Ever.
Had to yank it off for being too CPU intensive.

Worked for a large internet co that relied on ad revenue - if you don't see the ad, they do t get paid.

I actually think they also make a lot of revenue off of click through from “deals”. Amazon has a thing where they will pay you if you send people to a product page, and another, pennies larger cut if they person buys.

To be fair, I don’t do that either.

Really? Have not had that problem. My CPU has enough threads that it’s hard for any one thing to affect the others.

Funny, I’ve never had an issue with it... For instance, right now, I have a browser window with as close as makes no difference 60 tabs open (I know, that’s nuts, but I have my reasons :op) and my CPU (Intel i7 Quad-core w/Hyperthreading) is using 2% of it’s available computing power.
